A whole life cycle performance-based ECOnomic and ECOlogical assessment framework (ECO2) for concrete sustainability

Hisham Hafez et al.

Summary: The paper studied concrete sustainability assessment frameworks and developed a new multi-criteria decision analysis framework, ECO2. ECO2 can optimize concrete mix proportions based on user-defined sustainability objectives and consider environmental impacts over the entire life cycle.

Mechanical properties, drying shrinkage, and nano-scale characteristics of concrete prepared with zeolite powder pre-coated recycled aggregate

Hai-bo Hu et al.

Summary: The study shows that enhancing the properties of RCAs with zeolite powder-cement pre-coating can improve the compressive strength and reduce the dry shrinkage strain of concrete, thereby enhancing its overall performance. Compared to concrete containing RCAs, concrete containing ERCAs displays better performance in terms of compressive strength and dry shrinkage strain.

Investigation of thermal performance of concrete incorporating different types of recycled coarse aggregates

Syed Minhaj Saleem Kazmi et al.

Summary: The study investigated the thermal performance of recycled aggregate concrete incorporating different types of treated recycled coarse aggregates, with results showing an increase in thermal conductivity for specimens incorporating treated recycled aggregates compared to natural aggregate concrete specimens. However, the thermal conductivity values of specimens with treated recycled aggregates were still lower than those of natural aggregate concrete specimens. This research contributes towards the development of guidelines for sustainable construction practices.

A Bayesian model updating approach applied to mechanical properties of recycled aggregate concrete under uniaxial or triaxial compression

J. J. Xu et al.

Summary: This paper presents a Bayesian model updating approach for evaluating and updating existing deterministic models for the mechanical properties of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC), improving the accuracy and applicability of prediction performances. Using Bayesian parameter estimation technique, the important parameters in the updating process are assessed and the selected deterministic models for RAC mechanical performances are accordingly updated.
