Surface decoration of Halloysite nanotubes with POSS for fire-safe thermoplastic polyurethane nanocomposites

Wei Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, POSS containing amino group was covalently grafted on the surface of HNTs, leading to the uniform dispersion of modified HNTs in TPU matrix and significantly improved tensile properties and fire safety of TPU nanocomposites. The addition of HNTs-POSS effectively reduced heat release rate and smoke release, forming a continuous and compact char layer that hindered heat diffusion and evaporation of volatile gases, ultimately enhancing the fire safety of TPU nanocomposites.

Adsorption of malachite green and methyl violet 2B by halloysite nanotube: Batch adsorption experiments and Box-Behnken experimental design

Tuerkan Altun et al.

Summary: In this study, halloysite nanotube (HNT) was used for efficient adsorption of malachite green and methyl violet 2B dyes from industrial wastewater. Various parameters affecting adsorption were optimized using batch adsorption experiments and response surface method. The results indicated that temperature had no significant effect on the adsorption process. Langmuir, Freundlich, Dubinin-Radushkevich, and Temkin isotherms well described the adsorption equilibrium data. The adsorption process followed pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and both intra-particle diffusion and film diffusion were important rate-determining steps. The adsorption was found to be exothermic and spontaneous thermodynamically. The regeneration of HNT was confirmed in five cycles. The Box-Behnken response surface method provided mathematical modeling of the adsorption process, enabling the determination of optimum operating parameters.

Simple turn-off fluorescence sensor for determination of raloxifene using gold nanoparticles stabilized by chitosan hydrogel

Yingji Wu et al.

Summary: Developing a simple, applicable, and reliable fluorescence sensor is crucial for the detection of the anticancer drug raloxifene (RAF). The sensor, which utilizes gold nanoparticles embedded in chitosan hydrogel, demonstrates high selectivity, fast-response, and high sensitivity. It can detect trace amounts of RAF within a linear range of 5 x 10(-7) to 5 x 10(-5) M, with a detection limit of 34 x 10(-8) M and a quantification limit of 11 x 10(-7) M. The sensor shows satisfactory recoveries between 97.5% and 109% when applied to biological and environmental samples.

Highly structured metal-organic framework nanofibers for methane storage

Yibo Dou et al.

Summary: The strategy developed in this study combined electrospinning with a phase conversion method to enhance the loading of MOFs in the PAN NF matrix, resulting in a higher gas storage capacity for methane. The higher CH4 uptake can be attributed to the high availability of Cu-ions localized on the surface of the NFs during the phase conversion process, leading to increased surface area and improved gas access of the phase converted HKUST-1.
