Finite Element Simulation of Residual Tensile Properties of Fiber-Metal Laminates After Impact

Peisen Wang et al.

Summary: A finite element model was used to analyze the residual tensile behavior of metal/CFRP laminates after impact. The addition of a metal layer improved impact resistance and increased the residual tensile strength of the laminates by nearly 50%. The crack propagation of the CFRP layers exhibited regularity with different impact energy. FMLs-Mg showed the optimal impact resistance and specific residual strength considering the overall density.

Effect of activated slip systems on dynamic recrystallization during rotary swaging of electro-conductive Al-Cu composites

Lenka Kuncicka et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the structure investigations of newly designed electro-conductive Al-Cu composites produced via room temperature rotary swaging. The results show that the swaging route affects the activated slip systems and the development of dynamic recrystallization. Swaging with altering directions results in high presence of recrystallized grains and smaller average grain size.

In situ neutron diffraction investigation of texture-dependent Shape Memory Effect in a near equiatomic NiTi alloy

Zifan Wang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the hot swaging process led to changes in grain morphology and an increase in microstrain. The thermal expansion coefficients of martensite and austenite variants were weakly affected by texture, and the reorientation of martensite was weakly related to the initial microstructure and showed correlation with detwinning.

Theoretical and experimental evaluation of no-slip feeding condition in ECAP-Conform of a square-section metallic rod

Hasan Ghaforian Nosrati et al.

Summary: This study investigates the applicability of the ECAP-Conform process for obtaining fine-grained structures through severe plastic deformation. A novel theoretical method based on the slip threshold criterion (STC) was proposed to prevent slipping of the deformed rod on the feeder roll. The performance of the process was found to improve by increasing the roll-contact angle, roll friction, and roll radius, as well as decreasing friction on the surfaces.

Development of structure and properties in bimetallic Al/Cu sandwich composite during cumulative severe plastic deformation

Radim Kocich et al.

Summary: The study prepared Al/Cu sandwich composite reinforced with Cu-wires using the TCAP method and verified the effectiveness of optimizing deformation processing on enhancing material properties. Extrusion of the sandwich composite led to substantial deformation strengthening of both Al and Cu, increased microhardness, and changes in thermal conductivity.

Summary: The present study investigated the mechanical behavior of severely plastic-deformed Cu-Al composite wires with different diameters and heat treatments. It was found that heat-treated wires exhibited improved ductility and yield stress compared to those without heat treatment, and the formation of intermetallic compounds significantly influenced the mechanical properties.
