Application of Electron Beam Welding Technique for Joining Ultrafine-Grained Aluminum Plates

Marta Orlowska et al.

Summary: This study is the first attempt of electron beam welding on ultrafine-grained materials, aiming to examine the feasibility and effectiveness on thermally unstable materials. Despite causing a decline in mechanical properties, the results show comparable outcomes to solid-state welding with the significant advantage of narrower fusion- and heat-affected zones.

Cantor-derived medium-entropy alloys: bridging the gap between traditional metallic and high- entropy alloys

Fabio Da Costa Garcia Filho et al.

Summary: The concept of High-Entropy Alloys (HEAs) was proposed in 2004 and attracted attention due to their unexpected single-phase microstructure and excellent mechanical properties. The CrMnFeCoNi alloy stands out as the most successful HEA, while variants of the Cantor alloy, known as medium-entropy alloys (MEAs), are gaining interest for their industrial potential. The microstructure, phase stability, and mechanical properties of these alloys have been extensively studied.

Accelerated emergence of CoNi-based medium-entropy alloys with emphasis on their mechanical properties

Raymond Kwesi Nutor et al.

Summary: The concept of alloying has evolved over the centuries, and the emergence of high entropy alloying has revolutionized alloy design. Medium entropy alloys, such as the ternary CoNiCr alloy, have shown superior properties and have opened up new avenues of research. This review explores the development of medium entropy alloys using a binary CoNi building block and discusses the relationship between microstructure, properties, and deformation mechanisms.

High-Temperature Oxidation in Dry and Humid Atmospheres of the Equiatomic CrMnFeCoNi and CrCoNi High- and Medium-Entropy Alloys

Christiane Stephan-Scherb et al.

Summary: The surface degradation phenomena of two model equiatomic alloys from the CrMnFeCoNi alloy system were investigated in different environments. The oxidation resistance of CrMnFeCoNi is relatively poor due to the fast growth of porous Mn-oxide(s), while the chromia layer formed on CrCoNi in a dry atmosphere spalls off in a humid environment.
