Research on maximizing the diamond content of diamond/SiC composite

Xinbo He et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a method of combining hot mold pressing and liquid silicon infiltration to prepare diamond/SiC composites with high diamond content and relative density. The experimental results show that the content of diamond in the composites increases with the increase of the diamond particle size. This work provides a novel and efficient preparation method for further improving the thermal conductivity of diamond/SiC composites.

Laser powder bed fusion of diamond/N6 MMCs enabled by Ni-Ti coated diamond particles

Sheng Zhang et al.

Summary: Metal matrix composites (MMCs) have attracted increasing attention in additive manufacturing (AM), but controlling the quality of composite powder remains challenging. In this study, diamond particles are coated with thin layers of Titanium and Nickel for strong interface bonding. The effects of ball milling parameters and LPBF processing parameters on the preparation of composite powder particles and the density and defects of fabricated samples are analyzed. The optimized composite powder enables the manufacturing of dense diamond/N6 MMCs with high relative densities. Our study demonstrates the feasibility of manufacturing similar MMCs with appropriate coating, ball milling, and LPBF parameters.
