Suspension and Solution Precursor Plasma and HVOF Spray: A Review

Garima Mittal et al.

Summary: Thermal spray is a cost- and time-efficient process used in industrial and engineering sectors for mass production of desired coating structures. Liquid feedstocks in the form of suspensions or precursor solutions have the potential to overcome limitations of conventional powder feedstocks and offer better control over coating microstructure and material composition. However, there are complexities associated with liquid feedstocks that require understanding of the effects of different parameters on coating quality and performance.

Internal diameter HVOAF thermal spray of carbon nanotubes reinforced WC -Co composite coatings

F. Venturi et al.

Summary: A novel process incorporating carbon nano-tubes (CNT) into WC-Co thermal spray powder has been shown to increase microhardness but decrease fracture toughness of coatings. Improved carbide retention index and wear performance were achieved by lowering process temperature and adding CNT. Tailored choice of CNT concentration offers enhanced mechanical properties for different applications.
