Microfluidics-Based Low Salinity Wettability Alteration Study of Naphthenic-Acid-Adsorbed Calcite Surfaces

Summary: Microfluidics is a promising tool to investigate low salinity effects on oil-wet calcite surfaces. In this study, calcite-coated glass microfluidic chips were used to explore the wettability alteration mechanism at both room temperature and high temperature. The results showed that low salinity Na2SO4 and NaCl solutions induced significant wettability alteration, and higher temperature had little effect on the wettability alteration.

Microfluidic electrogenerated chemiluminescence cells using aluminum-doped zinc oxide nanoparticles as an electron injection layer

Summary: In this study, highly luminescent microfluidic electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) cells were demonstrated using aluminum-doped zinc oxide nanoparticles (AZO NPs) as an electron injection layer (EIL). The fabricated devices exhibited longer half-lifetime and higher luminance compared to those without EIL. Furthermore, the performance of AZO NPs as an EIL was compared with that of titanium dioxide NPs.

Summary: The translation of nanoparticles from laboratory to clinical settings is limited due to the current limited ability to precisely regulate various physicochemical parameters of nanoparticles. In this study, the range of preparation conditions for size-modulated PLGA nanoparticles was expanded using different organic solvents and a glass-based microfluidic device, aiming to enhance their applicability for drug delivery systems. The experimental results showed that PLGA nanoparticles of different sizes exhibited size-dependent cytotoxicity.

Rapid and inexpensive process to fabricate paper based microfluidic devices using a cut and heat plastic lamination process

Summary: Microfluidic paper-based analytical devices (microPADs) are simple-to-use and low-cost point-of-care testing platforms. We propose a new method, called cut and heat (CH-microPADs), for producing hydrophilic channels and reservoirs on various porous media. Compared to existing methods, the devices fabricated with this technique have excellent mechanical strength and chemical resistance, making them suitable for clinical diagnostics, biological sensing, food processing, and the chemical industry.

Polymeric micro gas preconcentrators based on graphene oxide and carbon nanopowder adsorbents for gas detection application

Summary: This study investigates the application of novel polymer-based microfluidic channels for preconcentration and detection of methane gas. It examines the performance of poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) microfluidic channel filled with graphene oxide (GO) as a new adsorbent for thermal preconcentration and carbon nanopowder loaded into a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) microfluidic channel. The study finds that both PMMA and PDMS-based microfluidic channels show promising choices in preconcentration applications for adsorbents with low desorption temperatures.

Microfluidic electrical cell lysis for high-throughput and continuous production of cell-free varicella-zoster virus
