Fracture prediction in the stamping of titanium bipolar plate for PEM fuel cells

Vahid Modanloo et al.

Summary: This study employed the stamping process to fabricate metallic bipolar plates and investigated the fracture issues during plastic deformation of commercially pure titanium. Several fracture criteria were studied for fracture prediction, with the damage-based criteria proving to be more reliable for accurate fracture prediction during stamping.

Corrosion resistant and conductive TiN/TiAlN multilayer coating on 316L SS: a promising metallic bipolar plate for proton exchange membrane fuel cell

S. Pugal Mani et al.

Summary: The single layers of TiN, TiAlN and TiN/TiAlN multilayer coatings were deposited on 316L SS bipolar plate by physical vapor deposition technique. Studies showed that TiN/TiAlN coating exhibited better water management and higher electrochemical impedance behavior in the fuel cell, even meeting the U.S. Department of Energy's 2020 target, and significantly reducing the metal ions dissolution.

Electrodeposition of conductive PAMT/PPY bilayer composite coatings on 316L stainless steel plate for PEMFC application

Srinu Akula et al.

Summary: This study successfully synthesized conductive polymer composite coatings in 0.5 M H2SO4, which shifted the corrosion potential of 316L SS in a noble direction and significantly enhanced its corrosion resistance compared to uncoated stainless steel. The PAMT on PPY bilayer coating acted as a good physical barrier, protecting the stainless steel against corrosion in the PEMFC environment.
