Occurrence of Virulence and Antimicrobial Resistance Determinants in Vibrio harveyi Isolated from Marine Food Fish Cultured in Korea

Liyana Arachchilage Dinithi S. De Silva et al.

Summary: Vibrio harveyi isolated from marine food fish cultured in Korea showed high virulence factors and antimicrobial resistance, with most classified as multidrug resistant, posing a threat to the effectiveness of antimicrobial treatments. Various virulence genes and antimicrobial resistance genes were detected in the isolates, indicating the potential development of more virulent strains with increased antimicrobial resistance.

Antibiotic resistance and determination of resistant genes among cockle (Anadara granosa) isolates of Vibrio alginolyticus

Safiyyah Shahimi et al.

Summary: This study isolated and identified 24 strains of Vibrio alginolyticus from cockles, showing varying degrees of antibiotic resistance with the highest resistance against penicillin. Four antibiotic resistance genes were identified in the isolates. Some strains carried hemolysin-related genes, but were sensitive to all antibiotics tested. Genetic analysis revealed 18 genome types among the isolates, indicating genetic diversity.

Vanillic acid combats Vibrio alginolyticus by cell membrane damage and biofilm reduction

Huan Liu et al.

Summary: This study found that vanillic acid exhibited good antibacterial activity against the fish pathogen Vibrio alginolyticus, causing cell membrane damage and increasing membrane permeability in a dose-/time-dependent manner. Additionally, vanillic acid significantly reduced biofilm formation, mobility, exotoxin production, and downregulated virulence-associated genes in V. alginolyticus. These findings suggest that vanillic acid may be a promising agent for treating infections associated with V. alginolyticus in aquaculture.

Sergey Bazhenov et al.

Summary: LitR acts as a master-regulator of gene expression in QS systems of bacteria from Vibrio and Aliivibrio genera, upregulating key genes such as luxI, luxCDABE, and luciferase. This upregulation is independent of luxR gene and depends on lux-box sequence in the luxI promoter.

Summary: The study demonstrates that hosts exhibit different immune responses when encountering Vibrio pathogens of varying virulence, including activation of different immune pathways. Highly virulent Vibrio strains induce apoptosis in oyster cells, while less virulent strains enhance phagocytosis and cell adhesion capabilities.
