Fossil hymenosomatid crabs (Crustacea: Decapoda) from the Lower Cretaceous of NE Brazil

Ighor Dienes Mendes et al.

Summary: This study describes fossil materials of Hymenosomatidae from the Upper Barremian (Lower Cretaceous) of Sergipe-Alagoas Basin, northeastern Brazil. It includes a new subfamily, two new genera, and three new species. These findings provide new evidence for the evolutionary history and distribution of Hymenosomatidae in the Mesozoic.

High-resolution taphonomy and sequence stratigraphy of internally complex, bakevelliid-dominated coquinas from the Aptian Romualdo Formation, Araripe Basin, NE Brazil

M. G. Rodrigues et al.

Summary: This study explains the sedimentary environment, bed-by-bed accumulation history, and carbonate microfacies of the Aptian Romualdo Formation in the Araripe Basin, Brazil, revealing high-frequency details in a restricted shallow sea setting. The shell beds are multi-event carbonate deposits generated by the superposition of various processes.

Depositional controls on lacustrine coquinas from an early cretaceous rift lake: Morro do Chaves Formation, Northeast Brazil

Julia Favoreto et al.

Summary: The Morro do Chaves Formation is a sedimentary succession composed of shell beds interbedded with mudstones and sandstones, deposited during the rifting process of the Gondwana in a complex lake rift system. This study focuses on characterizing different facies and their associations, developing a conceptual depositional model based on continuous well core analysis and stratigraphic correlation. The results show that carbonate and carbonate-hybrid rocks are mainly composed of bivalves formed during dry periods, while siliciclastic rocks indicate active tectonic and/or climatic wet periods.
