Search efficiency in the Adam-Delbruck reduction-of-dimensionality scenario versus direct diffusive search

Denis S. Grebenkov et al.

Summary: This study investigates the time it takes for a diffusive particle to reach an immobile target on the surface of a bounded three-dimensional domain. The efficiency of a reduction-of-dimensionality scenario, where the particle binds non-specifically and diffuses along the surface, is compared with a direct search process. By analyzing the full probability density function of the first-passage times and the survival probability of the target, it is found that under certain conditions, the reduction-of-dimensionality scenario outperforms the direct search.

Characteristic time for the end monomers of a spherically confined polymer to find a nano-pore

S. Mohammad Hoseinpoor et al.

Summary: This study investigates the attempt time of a confined polymer inside a spherical surface using a scaling approach and Langevin dynamics simulations. Results suggest that the attempt time does not explicitly depend on the volume fraction of monomers within a certain range.
