Confinement Promotes Hydrogen Bond Network Formation and Grotthuss Proton Hopping in Ion-Conducting Block Copolymers

Sheetal K. Jain et al.

Summary: It is found that block copolymer proton-conducting polymeric ionic liquid (PIL) has higher conductivity than analogous homopolymer. The increased structural rigidity of the ionic functional groups in the block copolymer PIL leads to enhanced ion dynamics. This nanoscale restructuring significantly enhances Grotthuss proton hopping dynamics in the block copolymer PIL.

Conjugated Block Copolymers for Functional Nanostructures

Seulki Kang et al.

Summary: Conjugated polymers are actively studied as a low-cost alternative to inorganic semiconductors due to their unique optical and electrical properties. However, the presence of defects in typical conjugated polymer films negatively affects their transport properties. This article introduces the self-assembly of conjugated block copolymers (BCPs) as a method to improve the molecular packing structure and discusses the potential of this approach in the fabrication of functional polymer nanostructures.

In Situ Studies of the Swelling by an Electrolyte in Electrochemical Doping of Ethylene Glycol-Substituted Polythiophene

Lucas Q. Flagg et al.

Summary: Organic mixed ionic electronic conductors (OMIECs) have great potential in various new technologies, but studying them in their operating state is difficult. This study presents a new approach to investigate the electrochemical switching of a prototypical OMIEC and finds that the crystalline regions are relatively hydrophobic and the potential-induced changes in crystal structure do not clearly correlate with the transistor performance.

Approaching Crystal Structure and High Electron Mobility in Conjugated Polymer Crystals

Ze-Fan Yao et al.

Summary: Conjugated polymers often have both crystallized and amorphous regions in the solid state, making it challenging to accurately determine their precise microstructures. This study obtained crystals of two typical conjugated polymers through a controlled self-assembly process, allowing for the determination of crystal structures using X-ray techniques and molecular simulations. The highly oriented polymer chains in the crystals exhibit higher mobilities and lower hopping energy barriers compared to spin-coated thin films.
