Electrolyte-Gated Perovskite Transistors Functionalized with Conjugated Polymers

Vivian Nketia-Yawson et al.

Summary: In order to overcome the limited chemical stability of perovskite compounds, we propose an interfacial functionalization method using a conjugated polymer in top-gate perovskite transistors with a high capacitance electrolyte dielectric. This multifunctional approach, utilizing separately processed polymers, prevents chemical diffusion during dielectric deposition, repairs defects on the perovskite surface, enhances air stability, and improves mobility through the formation of perovskite-polymer hybrid channels. The optimized conjugated polymer-capped lead iodide perovskite transistors demonstrate a remarkable hole mobility of over 30 cm2 V-1 s-1. This result demonstrates the potential of achieving high mobility in perovskite transistor applications through interfacial functionalization.

Stretchable N-Type High-Performance Polymers Based on Asymmetric Thienylvinyl-1,1-Dicyanomethylene-3-Indanone for Plastic Electronics

Yongjoon Cho et al.

Summary: The development of new electron-accepting building blocks for high-performance n-type semiconducting polymers is crucial for organic optoelectronic devices. In this study, a newly formulated thienylvinyl-1,1-dicyanomethylene-3-indanone (TIC) monomer was incorporated into low-band gap polymers alongside cyclopentadithiophene (CDT) and indacenodithiophene (IDT) comonomers. The regioregularity control of the TIC monomer resulted in regioisomeric polymer structures, and comparative studies revealed the effect of regioregularity on the optical properties. The polymers exhibited excellent n-channel field-effect transistors and retained high electron mobilities under external strain. A near-infrared organic phototransistor based on the polymers showed outstanding photoresponsivity, photodetectivity, and external quantum efficiency.

Inclusion of triphenylamine unit in dopant-free hole transport material for enhanced interfacial interaction in perovskite photovoltaics

Ji Hyeon Lee et al.

Summary: In this study, a high-performance dopant-free hole transport material (HTM) was developed by partially substituting a conjugated polymer with a triphenylamine unit. The modified HTM showed enhanced interaction with perovskite and improved passivation ability. Additionally, an increase in face-on oriented crystallites after the substitution enhanced the charge transport ability of the HTM. The perovskite photovoltaics (PPVs) fabricated using the triphenylamine-substituted HTM exhibited a higher efficiency of 20.4% and enhanced long-term stability compared to the devices using a control polymer without triphenylamine substitution (15.8%).

Unidirectional Macroscopic Alignment of Chlorobenzo[c]-[1,2,5]thiadiazole-Based Semiconducting Copolymers with Controlled Regiochemistry

Sein Chung et al.

Summary: Solution-processable donor-acceptor-type conjugated copolymers are promising alternatives to inorganic semiconductors. The introduction of strong electron-withdrawing groups in the acceptor units has been shown to favor fast charge transport. This study synthesized new chlorine-atom-substituted donor-acceptor copolymers and investigated the effects of regiochemistry on polymer backbone alignment and charge transport properties.

Regioregular, yet ductile and amorphous indacenodithiophene-based polymers with high-mobility for stretchable plastic transistors

Yongjoon Cho et al.

Summary: In the past decade, high-performing pi-conjugated polymers based on axisymmetric cyclopentadithiophene (CDT) and centrosymmetric indacenodithiophene (IDT) units have been studied for use in organic field-effect transistors. Comparative data show that IDT donor-containing polymers have superior hole mobilities; particularly, exclusive IDT donor-containing polymer P4 offers a high mobility of 1.67 cm(2) V-1 s(-1). Additionally, the near-amorphous characteristics of IDT donor-containing polymer films make them highly ductile and stretchable, showing promising potential for application in viable stretchable electronics.
