Water-based polyurethane adhesive films with enhanced bonding strength capable of in situ and high-efficient deposition on metal surface

Dan Wang et al.

Summary: This study introduces a facile and efficient method called demulsification-induced fast solidification (DIFS) to fabricate waterborne polyurethane (WPU) adhesive films on metal substrates with long-term stability. Multiple cross-linked structures between polycarbodiimide (PCD) and WPU enhance the bonding strength of the films. The resulting adhesive film exhibits excellent water resistance and shows potential for metal bonding and protection coating applications.

Synthesis of waterborne polyurethane by inserting polydimethylsiloxane and constructing dual crosslinking for obtaining the superior performance of waterborne coatings

Fuqiang Li et al.

Summary: This study addresses the issue of decreased mechanical properties in waterborne polyurethane (WPU) when polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is embedded into the molecule chains. By introducing an intramolecular crosslinking agent and a post-crosslinking agent, a dual crosslinking structure is constructed, resulting in improved extensibility and tenacity of the WPU films. The findings suggest that the developed emulsion has potential applications in the leather industry.

Liquid-Like Surface Topography Waterborne Polyurethane Coatings with Bio-Based and Easy-Sliding Oil Repellency

Jianfei Hu et al.

Summary: This study reports a new method to fabricate transparent oil-repellent coatings with liquid-like surface topography and sustainability. The coatings are formed by grafted polydimethylsiloxane chains, reducing the coefficient of friction with oily contaminants. The coatings can be applied to different substrates with low tilting angles, allowing low-surface-tension liquids to easily slide down the surfaces.

UV resistance, anticorrosion and high toughness bio-based waterborne polyurethane enabled by a Sorbitan monooleate

Henghui Deng et al.

Summary: In this study, a bio-based waterborne polyurethane (WPU) with anti-ultraviolet, corrosion resistance and excellent mechanical properties was designed and prepared using sorbitan monooleate (SP) and castor oil as raw materials. The influence of the hydroxyl ratios between SP and castor oil on the chemical structures and properties of bio-based WPU dispersions and films was systematically studied. The resulting WPU films exhibited excellent mechanical and thermo-physical properties due to the presence of hydrogen bonding, rigid furan ring, and high crosslinking densities.
