Interferon regulatory factor 1-triggered free ubiquitin protects the intestines against radiation-induced injury via CXCR4/FGF2 signaling

Summary: This study explores the role and mechanism of free ubiquitin (Ub) in protecting against radiation-induced intestinal injury. The findings suggest that free Ub levels are upregulated in irradiated animals and human patients, and its expression is associated with the activation of IRF1. The injection of free Ub reduces mortality and promotes small intestinal regeneration, potentially through the CXCR4/Akt/FGF2 axis. These findings provide a novel therapeutic option for radiation-induced intestinal injury.
