Hollow carbon nanospheres@graphitic C3N5 heterostructures for enhanced oxygen electroreduction

Qi Li et al.

Summary: This paper presents a template-based strategy to fabricate a catalyst with enhanced ORR activity by creating a 3D heterojunction of hollow carbon nanospheres and graphitic C3N5. The conductive heterojunction between g-C3N5 and HCNs facilitates fast electron/charge transports, leading to improved O-2 activation and intermediate reaction product desorption. Calculations using density functional theory reveal that the built-in electronic field at the heterojunction reduces the O-2 activation energy and enhances the ORR activity by lowering charge transfer resistance.

Interface Nanoarchitectonics of TiO2/g-C3N4 2D/2D Heterostructures for Enhanced Antibiotic Degradation and Cr(VI) Reduction

Peng Wang et al.

Summary: By a one-step solvothermal synthesis, two-dimensional/ two-dimensional heterostructures of TiO2/g-C3N4 nanosheets were prepared, which had a large interface area enabling easy migration of photogenerated carriers. As a result, the rate of photocatalytic reactions increased significantly. Under visible light irradiation, the TiO2/g-C3N4 heterostructures showed twice the degradation rate of antibiotics compared to g-C3N4, and their photoreduction performance of Cr(VI) was also higher than pure TiO2. The improved performance was attributed to the rich active sites brought by mixed-phase TiO2 nanosheets and the strong interaction between TiO2 and g-C3N4 at the interface.
