Highly-efficient and recyclable Bi2O2CO3 adsorbent achieved by surfactant modification and its application in pollutant removal

Summary: A highly efficient and recyclable Bi2O2CO3 (BOC) adsorbent with excellent adsorption performance for removing organic pollutants and Cr(VI) ions has been developed using different surfactants during the hydrothermal synthesis of BOC nanostructures. The CTAB modified BOC sample (BOC-CTAB) demonstrates the highest adsorption performance and can be easily regenerated through a simple photodegradation process. The adsorption kinetics, isotherms and thermodynamics of methyl orange (MO) and Cr(VI) onto BOC-CTAB were systematically investigated.

Influence of mass ratio and calcination temperature on physical and photoelectrochemical properties of ZnFe-layered double oxide/cobalt oxide heterojunction semiconductor for dye degradation applications

Summary: ZnFe-layered double oxide (LDO)/cobalt(II,III) oxide (Co3O4) composites were prepared by calcining Co loaded ZnFe-LDO obtained through hydrothermal and microwave hydrothermal methods. The composites exhibited a flower-like structure composed of Co(3)O(4) nanowires and ZnFe-LDO nanosheets. The ZnFe-LDO/Co3O4 composite showed a high degradation efficiency of 93.3% for methylene blue (MB) under visible light and 1.0 V voltage after 3 hours, indicating its potential for organic pollutant removal.

Summary: A simple two-step method was developed to fabricate ternary heterojunctions of YMnO3/CeO2/MgAl2O4 composite photocatalysts, which exhibited good adsorption capacity and photocatalytic activity. The GA model showed the best predictive ability for the adsorption capacity. The YCM photocatalysts displayed high optical absorption coefficient, charge carrier transfer and separation efficiency, adsorbed oxygen concentration and interface defect, high adsorption capacity, and photocatalytic activity. This study demonstrated the huge potential of YCM composite photocatalysts for eco-friendly adsorption of dye and degradation of drugs.

Development of highly-efficient 0D/1D/0D dual Z-scheme CdS/ZnWO4/ZnS heterojunction photocatalysts in pollutant removal and involved mechanism

Summary: Rational design of heterostructures is an effective strategy for enhancing the photocatalytic activity of semiconductors. In this study, a dual Z-scheme CdS/ZWO/ZnS heterojunction photocatalyst was synthesized by assembling zero-dimensional CdS and ZnS quantum dots onto one-dimensional ZnWO4 nanorods. The photocatalytic experiments demonstrated that the dual Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst exhibited significantly higher photodegradation activity compared to individual CdS, ZnS, and binary CdS/ZWO and ZnS/ZWO heterojunctions. The characteristics and photocatalytic mechanism of the CdS/ZWO/ZnS photocatalysts were investigated using various measurement techniques and computational calculations.

CTAB-assisted synthesis of Bi2MoO6 hierarchical microsphere and its application as a novel efficient and recyclable adsorbent in removing organic pollutants

Summary: Hierarchical microspheres of Bi2MoO6 (BMO) were synthesized using a solvothermal method with CTAB as surfactant. The synthesized BMO showed efficient and recyclable adsorption of organic pollutants, as demonstrated by investigating the adsorption kinetics, isotherms, and thermodynamics of methylene blue (MB) onto the BMO adsorbent. The BMO adsorbent can be easily regenerated via calcination in air and exhibits excellent reusability. Further studies showed its adsorption capability in removing various organic pollutants at different pH environments.

Connecting morphology and photoluminescence emissions in β-Ag2MoO4 microcrystals

Fabrication of 1D/2D BiPO4/g-C3N4 heterostructured photocatalyst with enhanced photocatalytic efficiency for NO removal

Realization of 18.97% theoretical efficiency of 0.9 μm thick c-Si/ZnO heterojunction ultrathin-film solar cells via surface plasmon resonance enhancement

Summary: In this work, the performance of c-Si/ZnO heterojunction ultrathin-film solar cells is enhanced by an integrated structure of c-Si trapezoidal pyramids on the top and Al pyramids in the active layer. The top c-Si pyramid increases absorption of short wavelengths and the bottom Al pyramid improves overall optical absorption, resulting in a high absorption rate of 93.16%. The optimized current density and conversion efficiency of the solar cells are 41.94 mA cm(-2) and 18.97%, respectively. The solar cells show good absorption in a wide range of incident angles and the electric field intensity profile demonstrates excellent light-trapping performance.

Visible light-driven photocatalytic and enzyme-like properties of novel AgBr/Ag2MoO4 for degradation of pollutants and improved antibacterial application

Summary: The manufacture of multiple catalytic materials is crucial for addressing environmental pollution and bacterial infection. In this study, AgBr/Ag2MoO4 nanoparticles with different molar ratios were prepared and characterized. The 1:1AgBr/Ag2MoO4 composite exhibited higher enzyme-like activity and excellent photocatalytic activity, achieving high degradation rates of rhodamine B and tetracycline hydrochloride. Moreover, the AgBr/Ag2MoO4 composite demonstrated effective sterilization capabilities against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Therefore, AgBr/Ag2MoO4 composite shows great potential as a bactericidal catalyst with dual catalytic activities in addressing environmental pollution and bacterial infection.

Surface doping of Bi4Ti3O12 with S: Enhanced photocatalytic activity, mechanism and potential photodegradation application

Summary: In this study, S element was doped into the surface of BTO crystals to enhance their photocatalytic activities in decomposing organic pollutants. The S-doped-BTO samples demonstrated improved visible-light adsorption and separation efficiency of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. Among the different x%S-BTO samples, 3.3%S-BTO showed the highest photocatalytic activity, with a performance 10.1 times higher than that of pristine BTO. The study also investigated the effects of inorganic anions and pH values on the photocatalytic performance of the optimal 3.3%S-BTO, as well as its photodegradation of other organic pollutants. The enhanced photocatalytic mechanism for the S-doped-BTO photocatalysts was proposed and discussed.

Enhanced photocatalytic activity, mechanism and potential application of Idoped-Bi4Ti3O12 photocatalysts

Summary: In this study, iodine was introduced into Bi4Ti3O12 (BTO) crystals to improve their photocatalytic activities in decomposing organic pollutants. The doping of iodine in BTO crystals was confirmed, and I-0.4-BTO was found to be the optimal photocatalyst with a photocatalytic activity approximately 3.0 times higher than that of pure BTO. The enhanced photocatalytic mechanism for the I-doped-BTO photocatalysts was proposed and discussed based on experimental data and density functional theory calculation. Morphology modulation of hollow-shell ZnSn(OH)6 for enhanced photodegradation of methylene blue

Summary: The morphology of ZnSn(OH)(6) nanoparticles plays a decisive role in their photocatalytic performance. In this study, shell-like hollow ZnSn(OH)(6) nanocubes with uniform particle size distribution and superior dispersion were successfully prepared through a hydrothermal method under suitable conditions. The effects of hydrothermal time, temperature, pH, and surfactant on the microscopic morphology and photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue dye were investigated. It was found that the differences in morphology led to differences in physicochemical properties, such as bandgap and charge transfer resistance, and ultimately affected the photodegradation efficiency. By adjusting the hydrothermal parameters or using different surfactants, the microscopic morphology and photocatalytic performance of ZnSn(OH)(6) could be effectively improved.
