Magnetic multi-walled carbon nanotubes-loaded alginate for treatment of industrial dye manufacturing effluent: adsorption modelling and process optimisation by central composite face-central design

Ali Azari et al.

Summary: In this study, the removal of dye ADMI from raw textile wastewater was investigated using magnetic multi-walled carbon nanotubes-loaded alginate. The key factors, including pH, adsorbent dose, and contact time, were optimized using response surface methodology-based central composite face-centred design. The adsorbents were characterized using various techniques. The developed model fit well with the experimental data, and under the optimized conditions, a high removal efficiency and ADMI adsorption capacity were achieved. The adsorption process was found to be monolayer and chemical in nature. The adsorption mechanism could be explained by the presence of negatively charged carboxyl and hydroxyl groups on the surface of the adsorbent.

Unveiling the nature of boric acid adsorption by metal-organic frameworks with hexanuclear clusters

Ben Wu et al.

Summary: With the rapid development of industries, there is a growing demand for boric acid, but the world is also facing the issue of boron-containing wastewater. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), known for their exceptional stability and large surface area, have been identified as effective adsorbents for boron. In this study, Zr-6/Hf-6-based NU-1008 and NU-903 were investigated for their ability to remove boron from water. The results showed that Hf-6-based MOFs had a higher capacity for boron adsorption compared to Zr-6-based MOFs, which can be attributed to the weaker electronegativity of hafnium. Single crystal X-ray diffraction revealed the precise binding sites of boron on the MOFs.

Removal of boron by a modified resin in fixed bed column: Breakthrough curve analysis using dynamic adsorption models and artificial neural network model

Shuqin Bai et al.

Summary: This study investigated the continuous removal of toxic element boron from aqueous solution using a new phenolic hydroxyl modified resin (T-resin). The results showed that the breakthrough time, exhaustion time, and uptake capacity of the column bed increased with increasing column bed height and decreased with increasing influent flow rate. The artificial neural network (ANN) model was found to be more accurate in predicting the breakthrough behavior of the column compared to the conventional models. The adsorption capacity of boron changed during five time regeneration.

Boron removal from synthetic brines and oilfield produced waters using aluminum electrocoagulation

Ming Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the feasibility of using aluminum electrocoagulation (EC) technology to remove high boron (B) levels from oilfield produced waters. The results showed that B removal during EC was more effective than when aluminum hydroxide solids were exposed to B solutions. Adjusting parameters such as current, total dissolved solids, temperature, pH, etc., can lead to higher B removal efficiency. Additionally, B removal increased with increased current loading and time, but too high of a current loading limited the removal efficiency.
