Propulsion reversal in oscillating-bubble powered micro swimmer

Fang-Wei Liu et al.

Summary: This article investigates a trapped gaseous bubble in a one-end-open tube, which generates microstreaming flow when oscillated by externally excited acoustic waves, serving as an effective propulsion force for underwater micro robots. The study reveals that reversal in propulsion direction can occur when the gas-liquid interface of the bubble is exposed outside the tube, with two methods discussed to control the interface position relative to the exit: neck structure and plasma treatment.

Bubbles in microfluidics: an all-purpose tool for micromanipulation

Yuyang Li et al.

Summary: The integration of microfluidic devices and various actuation technologies has significantly advanced related fields in recent decades. Microbubbles are increasingly important in microfluidics due to their unique characteristics and specific responses to different energy sources and gas-liquid interactions. Effective bubble-based micromanipulation strategies have enabled non-invasive, selective, and precise operations at the microscale.
