Do Weight-Bearing Knee Digital Radiographs Help to Track the Severity of OA?

S. Sheik Abdullah et al.

Summary: It was found that on weight-bearing radiographs, the medial knee joint space width ranged from 0.49 to 5.75 mm, while on non-weight-bearing radiographs, it ranged from 0.53 to 6.16 mm. The Q angle ranged from 8.72 to 14.58 degrees in weight-bearing position and from 10.13 to 14.92 degrees in non-weight-bearing position. Q angle and medial JSW were significantly associated with rapid progression of knee varus OA.

Quantifying Region-Specific Elastic Properties of Distal Femoral Articular Cartilage: A Shear-Wave Elastography Study

Weixin Deng et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the reliability of elastic modulus measurement in distal femoral articular cartilage and compare changes in specific regions. The results showed that shear-wave elastography can accurately measure the stiffness of cartilage, with no significant difference between the dominant and nondominant sides.

Meniscal anterior and posterior horn heights are associated with MRI-defined knee structural abnormalities in middle-aged and elderly patients with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis

Yao Liu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the association between meniscal anterior and posterior horn heights and structural abnormalities in knees with symptomatic OA. The results showed that changes in meniscal anterior and posterior horn heights were inversely associated with the severity of lateral compartmental cartilage lesions and bone marrow edema patterns, while higher medial meniscal posterior horn height was significantly correlated with more severe medial meniscal anterior horn lesions.

Functional manifestations of early knee osteoarthritis: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Hiroki Shimizu et al.

Summary: Early detection of knee osteoarthritis (KOA) can improve treatment outcomes and prevent its progression. This systematic review found that early KOA participants had a significantly longer timed up-and-go test (TUG) time, indicating functional changes. However, the quality of evidence for these findings was very low.

Comparison of the open kinetic chain and closed kinetic chain strengthening exercises on pain perception and lower limb biomechanics of patients with mild knee osteoarthritis: a randomized controlled trial protocol

Wei Hui Ng et al.

Summary: This study aims to compare the effects of two different exercise interventions, open kinetic chain (OKC) and closed kinetic chain (CKC), on the pain and lower limb biomechanics of patients with mild knee osteoarthritis (OA). The study will recruit 66 patients aged 50 years and above, with a body mass index (BMI) between 18.9kg/m(2) and 29.9 kg/m(2), and randomly allocate them into OKC, CKC, or control groups. The outcomes will be measured before and after the intervention.

Knee adduction moment is correlated with the increase in medial meniscus extrusion by dynamic ultrasound in knee osteoarthritis

Yosuke Ishii et al.

Summary: This study validates the feasibility of dynamic evaluation of medial meniscus extrusion (MME) in combination with a motion analysis system based on biomechanical factors. The results show that knee adduction moment is correlated with an increase in MME.

Subchondral bone or intra-articular injection of bone marrow concentrate mesenchymal stem cells in bilateral knee osteoarthritis: what better postpone knee arthroplasty at fifteen years? A randomized study

Philippe Hernigou et al.

Summary: A clinical trial involving 60 patients with bilateral knee osteoarthritis showed that implantation of MSCs in the subchondral bone was more effective in delaying TKA compared to injection into the joint. This study suggests that targeting the subchondral bone with MSCs may be a more beneficial treatment approach for knee osteoarthritis.

Recent Updates of Diagnosis, Pathophysiology, and Treatment on Osteoarthritis of the Knee

Sunhee Jang et al.

Summary: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative and chronic joint disease that primarily damages joint cartilage, causing pain, swelling, and stiffness. With the aging population and increasing prevalence of obesity, the prevalence of OA is expected to rise. Recent advances in understanding the mechanisms, diagnosis, and management of OA have led to many potential therapeutic advances.

Baker's Cyst with Knee Osteoarthritis: Clinical and Therapeutic Implications

Michele Abate et al.

Summary: This study compared the symptom burden in patients with knee osteoarthritis and those with knee osteoarthritis associated with Baker's cyst, as well as assessed the outcomes after conservative treatments. It was found that Baker's cysts contribute to the burden of symptoms and conservative treatment can lead to significant improvements in the short term. However, the efficacy of therapy declines in the medium term for patients with knee osteoarthritis associated with Baker's cyst.
