Impact of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic on routine immunisation services: evidence of disruption and recovery from 170 countries and territories

Summary: This study aims to assess the impact of COVID-19 on routine immunization. The study found a decrease in the administered doses of diphtheria-pertussis-tetanus-containing vaccine (DTP3) and first dose of measles-containing vaccine (MCV1) in the first half of 2020. The disruption of routine vaccination activities on a global scale highlights the dangers of future vaccine-preventable disease outbreaks. Although vaccinations began to recover in June 2020, further assessment of recovery and implementation of catch-up vaccination strategies are urgently needed.
