Impact of Density on the Behavior of Suspension Plasma-Sprayed TiB2 Coatings in the Presence of Molten Aluminum

S. Mohammadkhani et al.

Summary: TiB2-coated graphite substrates have the potential to be wettable cathodes for aluminum electrolysis. The properties of the coatings can be improved, and a double-layered coating shows better performance in contact with molten aluminum.

The effect of bond coat on the high-temperature behavior of HVOF-sprayed (Co,Ni)O coating on Cu-Ni-Fe anodes

Vahid Jalilvand et al.

Summary: The high-temperature behavior of Cu-Ni-Fe-coated materials as inert anodes for zero-carbon Al production is evaluated. Co0.5Ni0.5O top coat is deposited on CrMnFeCoNi high entropy alloy (HEA) and Ni-20Cr bond coats with Cu-rich and Ni-rich CuNiFe as the substrate materials. The effect of the bond coat layers on the oxidation resistance of coated samples is investigated, revealing the formation of a dense thin layer of Cr2O3 on both bond coats to inhibit oxygen diffusion. No diffusion of elements is observed from NiCr to (Co,Ni)O, while Mn atoms diffuse from HEA into the top coat layer during oxidation process.

Impact of HVOF-Sprayed Ni-Cr and (Co,Ni)O Coatings on the Corrosion Behavior of Cu-Ni-Fe Anodes for Green Aluminum Production

S. Mohammadkhani et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of (Co, Ni) O and Ni-Cr coatings on the Cu-Ni-Fe alloys during oxidation and electrolysis processes, demonstrating that (Co, Ni) O coatings can improve their corrosion resistance, prevent fluorination, and form a protective NiFe2O4 layer.

Influence of spray gun parameters on inflight particle's characteristics, the splat-type distribution, and microstructure of plasma-sprayed YSZ coatings

W. Tillmann et al.

Summary: Research shows that the microstructure of ceramic coatings is determined by the impact characteristics of molten and semi-molten particles and their relative splat-type fractions. Process parameter settings have a significant impact on the characteristics of impinging particles, influencing the microstructure and properties of the coating.

High-temperature behaviour of HVOF (Co,Ni)O coated Cu-Ni-Fe anodes

S. Mohammadkhani et al.

Summary: In this study, protective (Co, Ni)O coatings were deposited on CuNi-Fe alloys using the HVOF process to enhance their corrosion resistance at high temperatures. The behavior of the coatings and substrate compositions were studied, showing that coatings with higher nickel content can slow down oxygen and copper diffusion, while nickel-rich alloys form a NiFe2O4 scale that decreases in thickness with increased nickel content in the coatings.

TiB2 Deposited on Graphite by Suspension Plasma Spray as Al Wettable Cathode

Etienne Yvenou et al.

Summary: SPS TiB2 coatings demonstrate good adhesion and wettability, but exhibit high porosity and insufficient melting. The argon gas shield effectively limits TiB2 oxidation. The issue of aluminum infiltration leading to direct contact between molten aluminum and the graphite substrate needs to be addressed.
