Heat transfer augmentation of flat plate solar collector through finite element-based parametric study

Poonam Rani et al.

Summary: The introduction of fins and baffles on the absorber plate in a flat plate solar collector can improve the thermal performance, although it may cause a pumping power penalty. This study investigated the incorporation of hollow semicircular loop fins and rectangular baffles to enhance the overall performance of the collector. The continuous staggered arrangement of semicircular loops was found to be more effective. The finned collector exhibited higher Nusselt number, thermal efficiency, and collector outlet air temperature.

Comparative study of hemispherical solar distillers iron-fins

Mohammed El Hadi Attia et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that utilizing fins on a hemispherical distiller can increase performance, but the impact of fin length on performance depends on spacing due to shading effects in distillers. Therefore, improved distiller configurations can increase productivity by up to 56.73%.

Enhancement of the performance of hemispherical distiller via phosphate pellets as energy storage medium

Mohammed El Hadi Attia et al.

Summary: The performance of hemispherical distillers was enhanced by using phosphate pellets as a storage medium. The productivity improvement was 37.4%, 33.7%, and 47.9% for different modifications compared to the conventional hemispherical solar still. The peak enhancement was achieved with 2% phosphate pellets in the modified hemispherical solar still.

Performance enhancements of conventional solar still using reflective aluminium foil sheet and reflective glass mirrors: energy and exergy analysis

Vanitha Selvaraj Chandrika et al.

Summary: The research showed that fixing reflective mirrors and reflective aluminium foil sheets on the inner surfaces of solar distillers can increase water production significantly. Compared to conventional solar stills with black painted walls, the use of reflective glass mirror walls resulted in a 68.57% increase in drinking water production, while reflective aluminium foil sheets led to a 48.57% increase.
