Summary: A novel Schiff base compound was synthesized and characterized using various analysis techniques. The compound exhibited excellent corrosion inhibition properties on carbon steel in hydrochloric acid solutions, with the inhibition efficiency increasing with the concentration of the compound. Further studies revealed that the compound acted as a mixed-type inhibitor through adsorption, following Langmuir isotherm. In addition, the formation of an adsorbed layer of the inhibitor was confirmed by UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy, and the correlation between theoretical calculations and experimental results was discussed.

Corrosion inhibition potential of chitosan based Schiff bases: Design, performance and applications

Chandrabhan Verma et al.

Summary: Chitosan is a linear polysaccharide composed of D-glucosamine and N-acetyl-D-glucosamine linked together via beta-1,4-glycosidic linkage. Due to increasing ecological awareness, it is considered an ideal environmentally sustainable alternative. While unmodified chitosan itself is not highly effective in aqueous phase corrosion inhibition, chemically modified derivatives like CSBs show remarkable solubility in electrolytes. Chelation adsorption of CSBs has been discussed as a mechanism for aqueous phase corrosion inhibition.
