Y-TZP, Ce-TZP and as-synthesized Ce-TZP/Al2O3 materials in the development of high loading rate digital light processing formulations

Sophie Cailliet et al.

Summary: Y-TZP, Ce-TZP, and Ce-TZP/Al2O3 materials are widely studied in dentistry. High loading photocurable formulations suitable for DLP printing were achieved in this study by using specific properties of the materials. The ceramics exhibit suitable curing behavior for DLP process, with Y-TZP formulations having a high conversion rate and ceria ceramic formulations having a specific UV absorption behavior for quick curing.

Development of transformation bands in ceria-stabilized-zirconia based composites during bending at room temperature

Alethea Liens et al.

Summary: The study focused on transformation-induced plasticity in a ceria-stabilized-zirconia based composite, specifically looking at nucleation and growth of tetragonal-to-monoclinic transformation bands. The results showed that the spacing between the bands was influenced by the sample's thickness, with thicker samples leading to a smaller number of larger/deeper bands. Residual stresses around indentations on the tensile surface triggered band nucleation, but did not significantly affect the total number of bands in the end. A stress shielding model suggests that wider bands hinder the propagation of adjacent thinner bands due to stress shielding effects.
