Metal-free photosensitized oxyimination of unactivated alkenes with bifunctional oxime carbonates

Tuhin Patra et al.

Summary: A metal-free photosensitization protocol has been developed for the installation of both amine and alcohol functionalities into alkene feedstocks in a single step, demonstrating better regioselectivity compared to traditional methods. The use of orthogonal protection for amine and alcohol functionalities allows for the direct synthetic diversification of one functional handle without influencing the other. This process, utilizing readily available starting materials, offers a promising approach for various synthetic endeavors due to its convergent synthesis and mild reaction conditions.

A base-controlled switch of SO2 reincorporation in photocatalyzed radical difunctionalization of alkenes

Huamin Wang et al.

Summary: The challenge of controlling selectivity in radical chemistry has been addressed by developing a switchable, base-controlled strategy for the reincorporation/release of SO2 in photocatalyzed radical difunctionalization of alkenes. This method allows for the selective synthesis of valuable gamma-trifluoromethylated ketones and trifluoromethylated sulfonyl ketones from the same starting materials, showcasing high chemoselectivity, broad substrate scope, excellent functional group tolerance, and ease of scale-up. The choice of base has been shown to invert the chemoselectivity of the reaction, demonstrating control over challenging radical selectivity patterns.

Photocatalytic Anti-Markovnikov Radical Hydro- and Aminooxygenation of Unactivated Alkenes Tuned by Ketoxime Carbonates

Sheng-Qiang Lai et al.

Summary: A tunable photocatalytic method using ketoxime carbonates as reagents has been developed for anti-Markovnikov hydro- and aminooxygenation of unactivated alkenes. The reaction is initiated by N-O bond homolysis of ketoxime carbonates under visible-light photocatalysis, followed by generation of alkoxylcarbonyloxyl and iminyl radicals leading to carbon radical addition to alkenes. The carbon radical can either abstract a hydrogen atom to form hydrooxygenation product or be trapped by iminyl radical to yield aminooxygenation product.
