Both complexes demonstrated a type I PDT process and induced photoinduced ferroptosis in tumor cells under hypoxia, with MitoIrL2 outperforming IrL1 in inhibiting tumor growth through a synergistic effect of ferroptosis and apoptosis.

Summary: This study synthesized ultrasmall single-crystal Fe nanoparticles that showed high activity in inducing tumor cell ferroptosis and immunogenetic cell death in the tumor microenvironment at a low concentration. These nanoparticles effectively suppressed tumor growth, promoted dendritic cell maturation, and triggered T cell response in animal models, and when combined with immune checkpoint blockade therapy, they greatly enhanced the immune response and developed strong immune memory.
