Rapid synthesis of Li4Ti5O12 as lithium-ion battery anode by reactive flash sintering

Fangming Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, spinel Li4Ti5O12 (LTO) was successfully synthesized using flash sintering technique, demonstrating better crystallinity, higher purity, and smaller particle size compared to conventionally synthesized LTO. The flash sintered LTO exhibits higher specific capacities, better cycling stabilities, and rate capabilities than the conventionally synthesized samples, showing potential for improving the electrochemical performance of anode materials for lithium-ion batteries.

Operando calorimetry informs the origin of rapid rate performance in microwave-prepared TiNb2O7 electrodes

Sun Woong Baek et al.

Summary: TiNb2O7, a shear-phase compound, has emerged as a safe and high-volumetric density replacement for graphite anodes in lithium ion batteries, retaining capacity even at high cycling rates. Pure and crystalline TiNb2O7 can be rapidly prepared using a high-temperature microwave synthesis method, with operando calorimetry revealing key thermodynamic parameters and Joule heating dominating heat generation. The small enthalpy of mixing across different degrees of lithiation indicates the rapid rate performance is due to the high rate of lithium ion diffusion.

Tuning fermi level and band gap in Li4Ti5O12 by doping and vacancy for ultrafast Li+ insertion/extraction

Zhenya Wang et al.

Summary: The article presents a synergistic strategy of tuning localized electrons in Li4Ti5O12 through Mg/Zr co-doping and oxygen vacancy incorporation to improve its conductivity. The study reveals that co-doping and vacancy incorporation effectively enhance the dynamic characteristics of the LTO electrode, achieving excellent rate performance and cycle stability.
