Seeking New Layered Oxyselenides with Promising Thermoelectric Performance

Yueyang Yang et al.

Summary: Layered oxyselenides, such as Bi(2)LnO(4)Cu(2)Se(2), show potential as thermoelectric materials due to their unique structural features and electrical properties, with Bi2DyO4Cu2Se2 achieving a maximum ZT value of approximately 0.27 at 923K. The combination of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis and spark plasma sintering is an energy and time-saving method for preparing highly pure Bi(2)LnO(4)Cu(2)Se(2) instead of traditional solid-state reactions, showing promise for further research in finding new thermoelectric materials.

Enhancing thermoelectric performance of n-type Bi6Cu2Se4O6 through introducing transition metal elements

Junqing Zheng et al.

Summary: This study synthesized a new type of two-dimensional layered oxyselenide Bi6Cu2Se4O6 by combining the low thermal conductivity of BiCuSeO and the high electron carrier concentration of n-type Bi2O2Se. By introducing transition metal elements to increase the electron carrier concentration, the electrical transport properties were enhanced, achieving a peak ZT value of around 0.16 at 873 K, which is 60% higher than the ZT value in Bi6Cu2Se3.6Cl0.4O6. This work demonstrates that transition metal elements are effective n-type dopants to improve the thermoelectric performance of Bi6Cu2Se4O6.
