Importance of surgical assembly technique on the engagement of 12/14 modular tapers

A. Wade et al.

Summary: The study found that a more successful and repeatable engagement can be achieved by quasi-statically loading the male and female taper concentrically with the loading axis. When assembled using a method closer to that used by a surgeon intraoperatively, the disassembly to assembly force ratio was 0.480 +/- 0.05, compared to 0.626 +/- 0.07 when using the more 'ideal' process.

On the design evolution of hip implants: A review

Liyao Guo et al.

Summary: This manuscript reviews the development of femoral stem prostheses in the biomedical field, including their standard design, different materials, constructions, and surfaces used, as well as the optimization of their performance. Substantial research is still needed to develop prostheses that emulate the behavior of a real human femoral stem.

Dual Modular Titanium Alloy Femoral Stem Failure Mechanisms and Suggested Clinical Approaches

Jan Zajc et al.

Summary: This systematic review examines information on complications of dual modular Titanium stems in the last 12 years, finding that although they have not shown significant clinical benefits for patients and have worse durability results compared to monolithic stems, some designs are still marketed globally.
