Effect of nanoclay on mechanical, flammability, and water absorption properties of glass fiber-epoxy composite

Suhas Kowshik et al.

Summary: This study aims to improve the properties of glass fiber-epoxy composites by fabricating and characterizing nanoclay epoxy composites (NECs) and nanoclay glass fiber epoxy composites (NGFEC). The inclusion of nanoclay enhances the flexural and impact strengths, as well as reduces the burning rate and water uptake of the composites. Scanning electron microscopy images reveal various mechanisms of specimen failure under impact load, including crack deflection, fiber pull-out, crazing and matrix rupturing.

Artificial Neural Network (ANN)-Based Residual Strength Prediction of Carbon Fibre Reinforced Composites (CFRCs) After Impact

Bin Yang et al.

Summary: The study developed an artificial neural network (ANN) model to predict the residual strength of carbon fibre reinforced composites (CFRCs) after low-velocity impact. The ANN model showed good agreement with finite element (FE) results and demonstrated effectiveness in reducing experimental costs and computational time.

Characterization of interfacial properties between fibre and polymer matrix in composite materials-A critical review

Silu Huang et al.

Summary: This paper provides an overview of the fiber-matrix interface and interfacial properties in FRP composites, discussing interface mechanisms such as interdiffusion, chemical bonding, and mechanical interlocking. It also introduces methodologies for measuring interfacial properties, characterizing interface morphology and chemical composition, as well as numerical simulations on FRP interfaces, while highlighting the challenges for the characterization of interfacial properties.
