Blast response of clay brick masonry unit walls unreinforced and reinforced with polyurea elastomer

Gang Wu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the response characteristics and damage of clay brick masonry walls under explosion loads, as well as the effect of polyurea coating on blast resistance. Full-scale experiments are conducted to analyze the damage characteristics of the walls at different scaled distances. The reinforcement effect of different polyurea coating thicknesses and methods is explored. The study provides important insights for the design and application of polyurea in blast-resistant clay brick masonry walls.

Flexural behavior of RC beams externally bonded with polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) laminates

Rami A. Hawileh et al.

Summary: The experimental study demonstrated that RC beams strengthened with PET-FRP showed significant strength enhancement and higher ductility compared to beams strengthened with conventional CFRP and unstrengthened beams. PET-FRP is a promising strengthening material that improves structural performance and provides a sustainable alternative to traditional FRP strengthening systems.

Experimental study and finite element analysis on impact resistance of large-rupture-strain FRP reinforced civil air defense wall

Chenglong Shi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact resistance of civil air defense walls strengthened with large-rupture-strain FRP and analyzes the effects of reinforcement area, impact height, and impact times on the performance. The results show that the large-rupture-strain FRP effectively coordinates with the wall, suppresses concrete cracking, reduces residual displacement, and decreases crack width. Additionally, the advantage of the large tensile fracture strain of the FRP compensates for the limitations of commonly used FRP materials and offers a new reinforcement material to enhance the explosion resistance of civil air defense walls.

Axial impact behavior of Large-Rupture-Strain (LRS) fiber reinforced polymer (FRP)-confined concrete cylinders

Zhi-Wei Yan et al.

Summary: This experimental study demonstrates that concrete columns confined with larger rupture-strain (LRS) fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) jackets exhibit improved impact performance compared to those confined with aramid FRP jackets. Increasing impact height leads to higher impact force and shorter impact duration. Additionally, increasing the thickness of FRP jacket enhances the impact resistance capacity of the concrete columns.

Rate-dependent compressive behavior of concrete confined with Large-Rupture-Strain (LRS) FRP

Zhi-Wei Yan et al.

Summary: The study investigated the strain rate effect on LRS FRP-confined concrete through SHPB test and found that LRS FRP-confined concrete exhibited superior impact resistance compared to CFRP composites. The critical strain, compressive strength, and toughness of the LRS FRP-confined concrete specimen increased with increasing strain rate. Due to the large rupture strain characteristics, the LRS FRP-confined concrete specimen showed minimal visible damage after a single impact, highlighting the potential application of LRS FRP materials in impact resistance design of RC structures.
