Fractional Brownian gyrator

Alessio Squarcini et al.

Summary: When a physical system evolves in a thermal bath at a constant temperature, it reaches an equilibrium state with independent properties. However, when driven out of equilibrium, the system reaches a steady-state with properties that depend on the dynamics details. This study investigates the dependence of the steady state on driving noise and energy dissipation using a minimal model of a two-dimensional nano-machine called the Brownian gyrator.

Inference of time irreversibility from incomplete information: Linear systems and its pitfalls

Summary: Data and theoretical arguments are crucial for modeling physical systems, but estimating the distance from equilibrium based on series of scalar data with Gaussian statistics is generally problematic. This difficulty also arises when dealing with time-correlated data.

Spectral fingerprints of nonequilibrium dynamics: The case of a Brownian gyrator

Sara Cerasoli et al.

Summary: In this study, the dynamical behavior of a two-dimensional nanomachine, called the Brownian gyrator, is investigated. By analyzing the cross-correlations between the spectral densities of the components and the spectral densities evaluated at zero frequency, it is possible to conclusively distinguish between equilibrium and nonequilibrium dynamics. This research opens a new direction for the analysis of nonequilibrium dynamics.

Thermodynamic engine powered by anisotropic fluctuations

Olga Movilla Miangolarra et al.

Summary: The paper presents the concept of an autonomous Stirling-like engine powered by anisotropy of thermodynamic fluctuations. By simultaneously contacting a thermodynamic system with two heat baths along coupled degrees of freedom, torque and circulatory currents are generated to drive the engine. The electrical model of the engine consists of resistors and reactive elements, and stability analysis confirms its sustained power output. The study also establishes connections to the dynamics of a damped pendulum and a macroscopic Stirling engine.

Stationary properties of a non-Markovian Brownian gyrator

Eduardo dos S. Nascimento et al.

Summary: The study investigates the stochastic behavior of a non-Markovian version of an elementary Brownian gyrator, defined by overdamped Langevin-like dynamics with a two-dimensional harmonic potential coupled to heat baths at different temperatures. The results show rotational motion with non-trivial average torques due to harmonic, friction, and fluctuating thermal forces in the steady state regime, while the Markovian limit of the system exhibits a zero average torque.

Time-dependence of the effective temperatures of a two-dimensional Brownian gyrator with cold and hot components

Sara Cerasoli et al.

Summary: The model investigates a two-dimensional molecular machine with one passive component and one driven component in contact with different heat baths, resulting in asymmetric relation of effective temperatures over time. The effective temperature of the passive element stabilizes at a fraction of T-y, while the effective temperature of the driving component grows exponentially as the steady-state is approached.

Energy harvesting from anisotropic fluctuations

Olga Movilla Miangolarra et al.

Summary: The study investigates a basic model for a heat engine called the Brownian gyrator, exploring its coupling in an anisotropic temperature field to extract work. An isoperimetric inequality is derived to provide a universal bound on efficiency of cyclic operating protocols and a limit on how fast positive work can be extracted from a closed path.

Inertial effects on the Brownian gyrator

Youngkyoung Bae et al.

Summary: The research found that the dynamics and energetics of the Brownian gyrator are influenced by mass, with inertia helping to reduce nonequilibrium effects. In the Langevin model, rotation is maximized at a particular anisotropy while stability decreases at a specific anisotropy or mass.
