A novel sensitivity-based finite element model updating and damage detection using time domain response

Shahriar Baybordi et al.

Summary: This paper presents an innovative explicit sensitivity equation for structural parameters estimation using time domain data. The proposed equation provides a linear relation between time history response and variation of structural parameters. The accuracy of the method is validated through numerical examination in various damage scenarios, and crucial issues such as equation weighting, measurement, and modeling errors are investigated. The results show the robustness and accuracy of the proposed method and the advantages over derivation-based method and Direct Differentiation Method (DDM).

A novel sensitivity-based finite element model updating and damage detection using time domain response

Shahriar Baybordi et al.

Summary: This paper introduces an innovative explicit sensitivity equation for structural parameter estimation using time domain data. By incorporating incomplete measured responses of damaged structures, the accuracy of the method is examined in various damage scenarios. The proposed method shows robustness and accuracy in identifying structural parameters subjected to impact and single harmonic excitation loads, with advantages over derivation-based and Direct Differentiation Method (DDM) approaches.
