DFT calculation insights into effects of N-doped WO3 at different sites on electronic structure, optical property and photocatalytic activity

Shaomang Wang et al.

Summary: The electronic structure and optical property of N-doped WO3 at different sites were calculated using the B3LYP function. The results showed that N-doping narrowed the band gap of WO3 and promoted the separation of electron and hole pairs. The effects of N substitution at different sites on the photocatalytic activity of WO3 were investigated.

Hydrogen evolution from MoSe0/WO3(001) heterojunction by photocatalytic water splitting: A density functional theory study

Tong Liu et al.

Summary: Researchers constructed a MoSe2/WO3(001) heterojunction (MWH) and used density functional theory (DFT) to calculate and analyze its electronic structure and optical properties to reveal its photocatalytic mechanism. The MWH exhibited Z-scheme photocatalytic heterojunction characteristics, successfully inhibiting the recombination of photogenerated carriers through the segregation of oxidation and reduction sites.

Understanding the Structural and Electronic Properties of Photoactive Tungsten Oxide Nanoparticles from Density Functional Theory and GW Approaches

Valentin Diez-Cabanes et al.

Summary: Tungsten trioxide (WO3)-derived nanostructures are promising semiconductors for photocatalytic applications, with potential limitations due to insufficient understanding of the physical processes affecting their photoactivity at the nanoscale. A detailed computational study using a combined density functional theory (DFT)-GW scheme has been conducted to establish rules for designing photoactive WO3 nanostructures, identifying stable morphologies and size regimes that enhance photoactive efficiency.

Formation of a Small Electron Polaron in Tantalum Oxynitride: Origin of Low Mobility

Manoj Dey et al.

Summary: Tantalum oxynitride has potential as a photoanode for water-splitting due to its suitable band gap, but low carrier mobility limits efficiency. Research using DFT + U found that excess electrons tend to form localized polarons at Ta sites, impacting electron formation and transport.
