Adsorption characteristics and mechanisms of Pb2+ and Cd2+ by a new agricultural waste-Caragana korshinskii biomass derived biochar

Tongtong Wang et al.

Summary: This study explored the comprehensive utilisation and recycling technology of Caragana korshinskii resources by preparing 15 kinds of Caragana korshinskii biochar (CB) under controlled pyrolysis conditions. The CB showed promising adsorption characteristics for Pb2+ and Cd2+, with the optimal preparation condition at 650 degrees C for 3 h. The adsorption process followed Langmuir and Freundlich models, while the adsorption kinetics followed the pseudo-second-order model.

Land application of sewage sludge biochar: Assessments of soil-plant-human health risks from potentially toxic metals

Jin Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that the use of biochar can increase radish yield and reduce metal accumulation in plants, with minimal impact on human health risks, but the application should be controlled below 15 t ha(-1). In addition, excessive application of sewage sludge can lead to Cd levels in the soil exceeding food standards.

Enhanced ammonium removal on biochar from a new forestry waste by ultrasonic activation: Characteristics, mechanisms and evaluation

Tongtong Wang et al.

Summary: The adsorption treatment of ammonium-containing wastewater has drawn global attention, with most methods relying on chemical modification. This study introduces physical activation using ultrasound to enhance the adsorption performance of Caragana korshinskii waste biochar. The ultrasonic activation significantly improves NH4+ adsorption efficiency, making it a cost-effective and environmentally friendly method for industrial applications.
