Prevalence of restless legs syndrome in people with diabetes mellitus: A pooling analysis of observational studies

Pingping Ning et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the prevalence of restless leg syndrome (RLS) in people with diabetes mellitus (DM) and compare the risk of RLS between diabetic and non-diabetic population. The results showed that 25% of individuals with diabetes showed signs of RLS and had an increased risk of developing RLS compared to those without diabetes. However, the findings need to be corroborated in future studies due to limitations in the analysis and study design.

Restless legs syndrome among subjects having chronic liver disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Ravi Gupta et al.

Summary: Patients with chronic liver disease (CLD) often report sleep disturbances, with a higher prevalence of Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS). Factors such as elevated levels of tryptophan, histamine, and increased turnover of dopamine may be related to these changes, but the exact correlates remain unknown.

We need to do better: A systematic review and meta-analysis of diagnostic test accuracy of restless legs syndrome screening instruments

Stephany Fulda et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of screening instruments for RLS and found that no screening instruments can be recommended for use without an expert clinical interview in epidemiological studies. Future instruments should focus on maximizing specificity to determine true prevalence. The study provides guidelines for RLS ascertainment in epidemiological studies and includes an RLS reporting checklist due to the poor reporting quality of many RLS epidemiological studies.

Association between restless legs syndrome and peripheral neuropathy: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Felix Javier Jimenez-Jimenez et al.

Summary: The coexistence of peripheral neuropathy (PN) and restless legs syndrome (RLS) is relatively frequent, with RLS reported in 5.2%-53.7% of PN patients, and PN reported in 0%-87.5% of RLS patients, both significantly higher than controls. Variability across studies may be due to differences in diagnostic criteria. RLS is a common clinical complaint in patients with PN of different etiologies.
