Mechanical properties and fracture behaviour of agave fibers bio-based epoxy laminates reinforced with zinc oxide

Mauricio Torres et al.

Summary: The addition of ZnO nanoparticles to bio-based epoxy resin in different concentrations has varying effects on the viscoelastic and mechanical properties of biolaminates made from Ixtle and Henequen natural fibers. The interaction between fibers and nanoparticles plays a significant role in determining the reinforcement mechanisms. While Ixtle biolaminates experience a decrease in mechanical properties at higher filler concentrations, Henequen biolaminates show improved mechanical properties at a specific percentage of ZnO. The fracture behavior in mode I is influenced by the ZnO fraction, leading to different behaviors in the interlaminar adherence of the layers.

Influence of Elevated Temperature on the Mechanical Properties of Hybrid Flax-Fiber-Epoxy Composites Incorporating Graphene

Amer Oun et al.

Summary: Natural fiber composites have acceptable mechanical properties at ambient temperatures, but their performance at elevated temperatures is not well understood. The addition of graphene can significantly enhance the flexural strength and interlaminar shear strength of the composites, but excessive graphene content leads to the formation of voids.

Mechanical Properties of Hybrid Carbonized Plant Fibers Reinforced Bio-Based Epoxy Laminates

Edgar Adrian Franco-Urquiza et al.

Summary: In this study, henequen and ixtle plant fibers were carbonized and impregnated with bio-based epoxy resin, showing higher storage modulus for carbonized fibers. Thermal shock cycling did not affect the porosity level or cracks, but promoted a post-curing effect increasing the glass transition temperature. Differences in viscoelastic behavior were observed between different types of natural fibers, influencing mechanical properties.
