Phylogeographical Landscape of Citrobacter portucalensis Carrying Clinically Relevant Resistomes

Fabio P. Sellera et al.

Summary: This study in Brazil assessed critical priority pathogens circulating at the human-animal-environment interface and identified multidrug-resistant Citrobacter portucalensis in green sea turtles. The genomic analysis revealed the dissemination of different arrays of clinically relevant genes, making C. portucalensis a global priority pathogen.

The effect of EDTA in combination with some antibiotics against clinical isolates of gram negative bacteria in Mansoura, Egypt

Alaa M. Aboelenin et al.

Summary: The extensive use of antibiotics in clinical practice has led to the rise of resistant microorganisms, necessitating the exploration of new treatment strategies. This study examined the efficacy of EDTA in enhancing the inhibitory effect of certain antibiotics on multi-drug resistant gram-negative bacteria. Results showed promising outcomes, suggesting that the combination of gentamicin with EDTA could be a viable approach for managing resistant gram-negative infections.

Synergistic activity of tetrasodium EDTA, ethanol and chlorhexidine hydrochloride against planktonic and biofilm cells of clinically relevant pathogens

Murugesan Sivaranjani et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the broad-spectrum antimicrobial efficacy of tetrasodium EDTA, ethanol, and chlorhexidine HCl alone and in combination against clinically relevant planktonic and biofilm cells of bacterial and fungal pathogens. The results showed synergistic effects against planktonic cells and mature biofilms, indicating that the combination of these antimicrobial agents can be effective in preventing and treating biofilm-related infections. Further in vivo and clinical studies are needed to validate the observed in vitro efficacy.

Novel colistin-EDTA combination for successful eradication of colistin-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae catheter-related biofilm infections

Aye Mya Sithu Shein et al.

Summary: The combination of colistin (0.25-1 µg/ml) with EDTA (12 mg/ml) significantly reversed colistin resistance in both planktonic and mature biofilms of colistin-resistant K. pneumoniae. This novel colistin-EDTA combination showed potent efficacy in eradicating colistin-resistant K. pneumoniae catheter-related biofilm infections, eliminating the risk of recurrence in vivo, and reducing bacterial load in internal organs.

Roles of ompA of Citrobacter werkmanii in bacterial growth, biocide resistance, biofilm formation and swimming motility

Gang Zhou et al.

Summary: Deletion of ompA in Citrobacter werkmanii leads to increased biofilm formation, swimming ability, and resistance to stress, as well as differential gene expression. OmpA may act as a target site to modulate biofilm formation in C. werkmanii.
