Summary: This study investigates the stability of organic thermoelectric thin films at elevated operating temperatures. The electrical conductivity of ethyl-3-methylimidazolium dicyanamide (EMIM DCA) post-treated poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) thin films is measured over 4.5 h of heating at 50 or 100 °C for different EMIM DCA concentrations. The changes in electrical performance are correlated with changes in film morphology and PEDOT oxidation level, resulting in a degradation of thermoelectric properties.

Anion Size Effect of Ionic Liquids in Tuning the Thermoelectric and Mechanical Properties of PEDOT:PSS Films through a Counterion Exchange Strategy

Qikai Li et al.

Summary: In this work, we successfully enhanced the thermoelectric performance and stretchable capabilities of PEDOT:PSS thin films through controlling the interaction between ionic liquids and PEDOT:PSS. By fine-tuning the stacking of PEDOT polymer chains, we achieved a transition from hopping transport to band-like transport, resulting in improved thermoelectric properties. Additionally, the gelation time of the PEDOT:PSS solution was delayed by adding fluorine-containing ionic liquids, leading to higher stretchability of the films.
