Extraordinary negative thermal expansion of monolayer biphenylene

Qingfang Li et al.

Summary: The study successfully fabricated two-dimensional biphenylene with sp(2)-hybridized carbon atoms and found that the monolayer biphenylene exhibits negative and anisotropic in-plane thermal expansion, with the negative thermal expansion reaching up to 1000K. At 300K, the linear thermal expansion coefficient of biphenylene along the a-direction is three times that of graphene.

Optimization of pH-universal O2 reduction electrocatalysis by precise control over structural variables via basic bathing

Chuangchuang Yang et al.

Summary: Biomass-based catalysts show promise as alternatives to Pt for ORR, but optimization requires tuning structural variables, enhancing mass transport, and achieving pH-universal catalytic activities. The 'basic bathing' method allows precise control over the structure of nitrogen-doped metal-free ORR electrocatalysts, leading to improved performance and pH-universal catalytic activity. Results indicate the importance of mesopores and nitrogen species distributions in enhancing pH-universal ORR performance.

Theoretical investigation of CO2 electroreduction on N (B)-doped graphdiyne mononlayer supported single copper atom

Zhen Feng et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the geometric structures, electronic properties, and catalytic performance of boron- and nitrogen-doped graphdiyne complexes anchored with a single copper atom for CO2 electrochemical reduction reaction (CO2RR). The nitrogen-doped graphdiyne monolayers exhibited more efficient catalytic performance compared to the boron-doped ones, attributed to differences in adsorption energies and charge transfer. The findings suggest that electronegativity of coordinated elements plays a crucial role in designing atomic metal catalysts for CO2RR.
