Modulation of the innate immune system by lipopolysaccharide in the proventriculus of chicks inoculated with or without Newcastle disease and infectious bronchitis vaccine

Yukinori Yoshimura et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the response of the innate immune system in the proventriculus of broiler chicks to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and how this response is influenced by Newcastle disease and infectious bronchitis (ND/IB) vaccination. The results showed that LPS derived from gram-negative bacteria can upregulate the innate immune system in the proventriculus, including the synthesis of antimicrobial peptides. ND/IB vaccination may not significantly affect antimicrobial peptide synthesis in response to LPS, but it can upregulate Toll-like receptor 21 expression.

Yeast cell wall upregulated cell-mediated immune responses to Newcastle disease virus vaccine

S. Bi et al.

Summary: A recent study found that yeast cell wall product (YP) can enhance the immune responses in chickens immunized with NDV vaccine. The study investigated the cell-mediated immune responses elicited by NDV and YP in commercial broilers. The results showed that YP increased the concentration of certain immune factors in the blood and promoted lymphocyte proliferation. The study also found upregulated gene expression in the spleen and jejunum.

The role of dectin-1 in health and disease

Namarta Kalia et al.

Summary: Dectin-1, a pattern recognition receptor, plays a crucial role not only in anti-fungal defense but also in defense against a variety of infectious diseases and potential therapeutic strategies for cancers. Its polymorphisms modulate immune responses and collaboration with other receptors, highlighting its therapeutic potential.

Abdul Hanan Khalid et al.

Summary: The study showed that supplementation of synbiotic (1 g/kg) had positive effects on growth performance, carcass yield, gut health, and nutrient digestibility in broilers, with increased cecal Lactobacillus and decreased harmful bacteria compared to control and probiotic supplementation diets.
