Phenotypic Analysis of Growth and Morphological Traits in Miniature Breeds of Japanese Indigenous Chickens

Ryoko Ono et al.

Summary: This study investigated the changes in various traits in three genetically distinct Japanese indigenous chicken breeds during different growth stages. The results showed significant differences in traits among breeds and between sexes during growth stages. Additionally, the shape and length of the tail feathers, tail number, body weight, and shank length exhibited age-dependent changes.

Genotype affects free amino acids of egg yolk and albumen in Japanese indigenous breeds and commercial Brown layer chickens

Tatsuhiko Goto et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of genetic background on egg traits in chickens by using different chicken genotypes. The results show that genetic background not only affects the size and weight of eggs but also the amino acid contents and balance of yolk and albumen.

Analyses of free amino acid and taste sensor traits in egg albumen and yolk revealed potential of value-added eggs in chickens

Tatsuhiko Goto et al.

Summary: By investigating the impact of different chicken breeds and feeds on the amino acid contents and bitterness sensor traits of eggs, it was found that breeds and feeds significantly influenced bitterness in the albumen and yolk, with limited effects on amino acid traits. The results suggest that selecting the right combination of breed and feed can result in customized eggs with enriched amino acids and enhanced taste.

Impact on genetic differences among various chicken breeds on free amino acid contents of egg yolk and albumen

Tatsuhiko Goto et al.

Summary: The study showed significant breed effects on egg quality and amino acid traits, with significant heterosis effect. Positive correlations were found within each trait category, while weak correlations were observed among different trait categories.

Slight Disruption in Intestinal Environment by Dextran Sodium Sulfate Reduces Egg Yolk Size Through Disfunction of Ovarian Follicle Growth

Takahiro Nii et al.

Summary: The oral administration of a lower dose of DSS caused slight disruptions in the intestinal environment, resulting in poor intestinal morphology and decreased cecal microbiome diversity. This led to a decrease in egg yolk size but did not reduce the supply of VLDLy from the liver. The reduction in egg yolk size was likely due to dysfunction in the uptake of egg-yolk precursors in ovarian follicles.

Genetic effect on free amino acid contents of egg yolk and albumen using five different chicken genotypes under floor rearing system

Kenji Nishimura et al.

Summary: Genetic background has a significant impact on egg quality traits and amino acid contents in yolks and albumen. Phenotypic correlations differ among traits within each category, with limited correlations between different trait categories. The Araucana cross exhibits a unique feature with moderate positive correlations between amino acids in yolk and albumen.

Folate Content and Yolk Color of Hen Eggs from Different Farming Systems

Marta Czarnowska-Kujawska et al.

Summary: The study compared folate contents in hen eggs from different farming systems, with organic eggs having the highest folate content. One egg may provide 40-86 μg of folate, which is 10-22% of the recommended daily intake for adults. The most stable form of folate found in eggs was 5-methyltetrahydrofolate.

The relationship between egg quality and hen housing systems-A systematic review

Paula Gabriela da Silva Pires et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of housing systems on egg quality, summarizing the types of hen housing systems in different countries and their impact on egg quality. Europe has the most developed research related to this topic, with egg weight being the most studied quality response. Future research needs to conduct more experiments on egg quality in different housing systems and factor interactions.

Mechanisms associated with the depigmentation of brown eggshells: a review

Ming-Yuan Lu et al.

Summary: Eggshell color is an important quality trait affecting consumer preference, with various pigments influencing the intensity of color. The synthesis of protoporphyrin IX plays a key role in determining the intensity of brown eggshell color, affected by factors such as synthetase-mediated synthesis, redox status, and regulation of transcription factors.
