K. Parvathi et al.

Summary: This research aimed to fabricate low-cost and highly durable conducting rubber products by incorporating copper alumina nanocomposites into chlorinated natural rubber. The results showed that the addition of nanoparticles significantly improved the electrical conductivity and hardness, while reducing the elongation at break and resilience. These improvements are important for the design of flexible flame retardant electronic devices, electromagnetic induction shielding, and conducting adhesive materials.

Enhanced optical, thermal and electrical properties of chlorinated natural rubber/zinc ferrite nanocomposites for flexible electrochemical devices

K. Parvathi et al.

Summary: This work investigates the optical, thermal stability, and temperature-dependent electrical properties of chlorinated natural rubber/zinc ferrite nanocomposites. The insertion of zinc ferrite into the rubber matrix leads to a decrease in bandgap energy. The nanocomposites exhibit enhanced thermal stability and electrical properties compared to the parent polymer. Additionally, the conductivity of the nanocomposites shows a non-ohmic behavior, indicating a dynamic relaxation process. The experimental results are in good agreement with theoretical models, suggesting the presence of interfacial interactions in the nanocomposites. These findings are significant for the development of highly-durable flexible electronic devices, actuators, supercapacitors, and elastomeric pressure sensors.

Robust magneto-rheological elastomers performance for composites based on iron oxide and carbon black in silicone rubber

Vineet Kumar et al.

Summary: In this study, magneto-rheological elastomers (MREs) based on iron oxide and carbon black were prepared, and the influence of magnetic field on their mechanical performance was investigated. The hybrid composites showed higher mechanical properties compared to pure carbon black or iron oxide, but also suffered from higher heat build-up losses. Improving stress transfer in the composite is a future research direction to overcome these issues.

Enhanced optical properties, thermal transitions, temperature-dependent electrical properties and modelling studies of poly(diphenylamine)/NiO nanocomposites

Furhan et al.

Summary: Conducting polymer nanocomposites based on nickel oxide nanoparticles and poly(diphenylamine) were prepared and characterized in this study. The nanocomposites exhibited magnificent optical properties, thermal stability, high dielectric constant and electrical conductivity. The optimal loading of nickel oxide nanoparticles was found to be 7 wt.%. The presence of crystalline nickel oxide nanoparticles in the poly(diphenylamine) matrix was confirmed by various analysis methods. The dielectric constant and loss tangent decreased with frequency and increased with temperature. The AC conductivity increased with frequency and followed Jonscher's universal power law. The DC conductivity of the composites increased with filler concentration, and the percolation threshold was around 5 wt.%. The experimental DC conductivity values matched the values predicted by the McCullough model.

Natural rubber biocomposites based on nanocrystalline and modified nanocrystalline cellulose: curing, mechanical, thermal and electrical properties

Emad S. Shafik

Summary: The study aimed to prepare biocomposites based on natural rubber reinforced with nanocrystalline and modified nanocrystalline cellulose as biodegradable fillers. The mechanical properties of the composites showed that adding NCC and modified NCC increased tensile strength, but beyond 5phr, there was a decline in mechanical performance. Additionally, modified NCC reduced curing time more significantly than NCC and higher filler loading in the composite led to increased permittivity and dielectric loss values.
