Fluorine-terminated diamond (110) surfaces for nitrogen-vacancy quantum sensors

Wei Shen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of different surface modifications on diamond (110) surface on NV centers and finds that the oxygen-terminated and nitrogen-terminated, as well as hydrogen-terminated surfaces may not be suitable for shallow NV centers, while the fluorine-terminated surface is a promising candidate.

Tailoring of Typical Color Centers in Diamond for Photonics

Kang Liu et al.

Summary: The nitrogen vacancy (NV) color center is attractive for single-photon entangled light sources and high-sensitivity probes in quantum information processing, weak magnetic field detection, and biosensing due to its convenience of spin initialization, operation, and optical readout combined with long coherence time. However, challenges such as enhancing emission of NV centers, obtaining indistinguishable photons, and improving collecting efficiency for the photons need to be addressed for fully realizing its potential. The development of emerging color centers, such as germanium vacancy defects and rare-earth dopants, also shows great potential for various applications.
