Formation, Detection, and Function of Oxygen Vacancy in Metal Oxides for Solar Energy Conversion

Zhiliang Wang et al.

Summary: Oxygen vacancy (V-O) is a common defect in metal oxides that provides unique physiochemical properties. Understanding its formation, structure, and function remains challenging, highlighting the importance of studying defect formation energy and structure in V-O research. This review critically revisits the electronic property and structure changes of MOs upon the generation of Vo, providing insights for future research directions in rational control of V-O in MOs for solar energy conversion.

Andersson-Magneli Phases TinO2n-1: Recent Progress Inspired by Swedish Scientists

Qing Zhang et al.

Summary: Andersson-Magneli phases TinO2n-1 (n=4-10) have attracted scientific attention due to their electrical conductivity and stability. Recent developments in electron microscopy have been applied to study the relationship between structural characteristics and electronic states of these materials, particularly TinO2n-1 with n=4-8, revealing valuable insights. The focus on Ti4O7 as a representative example of these phases, with analysis of single-crystal XRD data, electron diffraction experiments, and electrical conductivity measurements, provides significant findings on the material's behavior at different temperatures.

Flame Synthesized Blue TiO2-x with Tunable Oxygen Vacancies from Surface to Grain Boundary to Bulk

Shuyang Wu et al.

Summary: A one-step flame synthesis method for fast fabrication of blue TiO2-x with controllable defect content and location is reported, along with the application of temperature-programmed oxidation (TPO) analysis for quantifying oxygen vacancies. Results showed that a moderate level of oxygen vacancies can greatly enhance charge transfer.

Effect of Charge Injection on the Conducting Filament of Valence Change Anatase TiO2 Resistive Random Access Memory Device

Mousam Charan Sahu et al.

Summary: The study uses first-principles calculations to explain resistive switching phenomena in anatase TiO2 for the first time, identifying the impact of oxygen vacancy states on the ON and OFF states of ReRAM devices. Different charge states of oxygen vacancy configurations are found to be key factors in the formation of conducting filaments and the breakdown of CF.

Ordered Arrangement of Planar Faults with Picoscale Perfection in Titanium Oxide Natural Superlattices

Shunta Harada et al.

Summary: The ordered arrangement of planar faults in titanium oxide natural superlattices exhibits picoscale structural perfection, with an average periodicity disorder of 36 pm and interface roughness estimated to be 15 pm. Calculation of the specularity parameter indicates that the smooth interfaces in the titanium oxide NSL system can coherent control phonons with frequencies less than 23 THz.
