Engineering RHO Nanozeolite: Controlling the Particle Morphology, Al and Cation Content, Stability, and Flexibility

Edwin B. Clatworthy et al.

Summary: The engineering of RHO nanozeolite allows for tailoring of its particle morphology, Si/Al ratio, cation content, stability, and flexibility. The synthesis process was optimized to improve the Si/Al ratio while maintaining nanosized dimensions and well-defined morphology. In situ XRPD experiments demonstrate the unique structural behavior of the nanozeolites at high temperatures. The findings expand the scope of nanozeolites for precise applications.

Cs-RHO Goes from Worst to Best as Water Enhances Equilibrium CO2 Adsorption via Phase Change

Le Xu et al.

Summary: This study reveals a cooperative adsorption mechanism between H2O and Cs+ cations on Cs-RHO zeolite, facilitating the adsorption of CO2 under humid conditions. Unlike other univalent cation-exchanged RHO zeolites, Cs-RHO shows a unique capability to increase equilibrium CO2 adsorption under humid conditions.

Cation Ordering and Exsolution in Copper-Containing Forms of the Flexible Zeolite Rho (Cu,M-Rho; M=H, Na) and Their Consequences for CO2 Adsorption

Magdalena M. Lozinska et al.

Summary: The flexibility of the zeolite Rho framework enables tunable molecular sieving for rapid CO2 adsorption at room temperature. Fully copper-exchanged forms exhibit open structures even after dehydration, with low occupancy of window sites allowing for quick CO2 uptake. Cu-Rho shows potential for producing pure methane from CO2/CH4 mixtures at the expense of weaker CO2 interaction compared to Na-Rho. Additionally, Cu,Na-Rho materials with >2 Cu cations per unit cell display enhanced performance in CO2/CH4 breakthrough tests, showing improved CO2/CH4 selectivity and uptake.

The inorganic cation-tailored trapdoor effect of silicoaluminophosphate zeolite for highly selective CO2 separation

Xiaohe Wang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the unprecedented separation efficiency of CO2/CH4 in small-pore SAPO-RHO zeolite by exchanging protonated organic structure-directing agent with Na+, K+, or Cs+ ions. The Na+ form showed superior selectivity for CO2 separation with a record high separation factor. This work paves the way for gas separation using cation-tailored trapdoor effect in diverse silicoaluminophosphate zeolites.
