Construction of a novel mitochondria-targeted near-infrared (NIR) probe for detection of viscosity changes in cancer cells ferroptosis process

Jingfen Yin et al.

Summary: Mitochondria play a vital role in cellular functions and abnormal viscosity is a key factor indicating mitochondrial dysfunction. Abnormal changes in mitochondrial viscosity are closely related to various diseases and dysfunctions. Developing a mitochondrial viscosity response probe can provide new insights into these diseases. This study introduces a novel near-infrared fluorescent probe for the detection of mitochondrial viscosity in live cells.

Fluorescent molecular rotor probes nanosecond viscosity changes

Federico Caporaletti et al.

Summary: Viscosity is a critical property of liquids, but measuring it in short-lived, metastable samples has been challenging. This study presents a new method that utilizes fluorescent molecular rotors and pulsed laser excitation to measure viscosity with a time resolution of a few nanoseconds.

Real-time imaging of acute alcoholic liver injury in vivo via a robust viscosity probe with aggregation-induced emission nature

Yangzhen Feng et al.

Summary: AALI is often ignored or misdiagnosed due to lack of typical symptoms, but can progress to severe liver lesions without intervention. A fluorescent probe HOTPy was developed to diagnose AALI by detecting mitochondrial viscosity changes, successfully imaging AALI in mice and tracking liver improvement in real-time. HOTPy shows promise for AALI diagnosis and management through fluorescence imaging.

A conformational transition based fluorescent probe for mapping lysosomal viscosity fluctuations by fluorescence lifetime imaging

Jie Cui et al.

Summary: The study introduced a new fluorescent molecular rotor, BODIPY-P, for monitoring viscosity fluctuations within lysosomes during autophagy and apoptosis. By utilizing this rotor, specific mapping and quantifying of lysosomal viscosity fluctuations were successfully achieved through dual mode imaging. BODIPY-P demonstrated high sensitivity and selectivity to viscosity, specific lysosome targeting, quick washing free imaging, and excellent intracellular photostability.

Pyrene-based aggregation-induced emission luminogens (AIEgens) with less colour migration for anti-counterfeiting applications

Xiaohui Wang et al.

Summary: The study presents a set of pyrene-based AIEgens with high thermal stability, excellent fluorescence properties, and good biocompatibility for use in fluorescent inks for anti-counterfeiting applications. These fluorescent inks avoid the aggregation-caused quenching (ACQ) effect and exhibit good printability on different printing substrates, extending the application range from ultralow to high concentration.
