A Ruthenium-Catalyzed Cyclization to Dihydrobenzo[c]phenanthridinone from 7-Azabenzonorbornadienes with Aryl Amides

Narasingan Aravindan et al.

Summary: An efficient ruthenium(II)-catalyzed tandem C-C/C-N bond formation has been developed for the synthesis of cis-fused dihydrobenzo[c]phenanthridinones using aryl amides and 7-azabenzonorbomadienes. The amide group acts as a directing and leaving group, providing easy access to pharmaceutically useful alkaloids. The reaction is compatible with various functional groups and the mechanism involves directing-group-assisted C-H activation.

Rhodium(III)-Catalyzed C-H Activation: Annulation of Petrochemical Feedstocks for the Construction of Isoquinolone Scaffolds

Joyann S. Barber et al.

Summary: In this study, a simple and robust procedure for the Rh(III)-catalyzed [4+2] cycloaddition of feedstock gases enabled through C-H activation is described. A diverse set of 3,4-dihydroisoquinolones and 3-methylisoquinolones have been prepared in good to excellent yields. The effects of using ethylene and propyne as coupling partners on C-H site selectivity have also been explored with a representative set of substrates and discussed in detail.

Cp*CoIII-Catalyzed C(7)-H Bond Annulation of Indolines with Alkynes

Rajib Mandal et al.

Summary: An efficient protocol has been developed for the synthesis of biologically essential pyrroloquinolinones under Cp*Co-III catalysis, involving a cascade reaction of C(7)-H alkenylation with alkynes. Various internal alkynes and challenging terminal alkynes were successfully employed, resulting in good to excellent yields with high regioselectivity.

Effect of Transition Metals on Chemodivergent Cross-Coupling of Acrylamides with Vinyl Acetate via C-H Activation

Ravichandran Logeswaran et al.

Summary: A novel chemodivergent cross-coupling of acrylamides and vinyl acetates has been achieved through metal-catalyzed vinylic C-H activation. The reaction efficiently generates a range of highly synthetically valuable butadienes with good functional group tolerance in good to moderate yields. A possible catalytic reaction mechanism involving the chelation-assisted olefinic C-H activation via an acetate-assisted deprotonation pathway is proposed.

Cobalt-Catalyzed C-H Activation and [3+2] Annulation with Allenes: Diastereoselective Synthesis of Indane Derivatives

Arnab Dey et al.

Summary: This study achieved a novel bidentate directing-group-assisted cobalt-catalyzed oxidative C-H activation of aryl hydrazones followed by a syn-diastereoselective [3 + 2] annulation reaction using allenes as annulation partners, bypassing the need for stoichiometric metal oxidants and operating under aerobic conditions.

Cobalt(iii)-catalyzed redox-neutral [4+2]-annulation of N-chlorobenzamides/acrylamides with alkylidenecyclopropanes at room temperature

Balu Ramesh et al.

Summary: An efficient synthesis of substituted 3,4-dihydroisoquinolinones using a less expensive and abundant Co(iii) catalyst, avoiding the use of external metal oxidants, is demonstrated through C-H activation. The N-Cl bond of N-chlorobenzamide acts as an internal oxidant in the reaction, converting the derivatives successfully. Deuterium labeling studies reveal that C-H activation is the rate-determining step in this cyclization reaction.

Recent development in transition metal-catalysed C-H olefination

Wajid Ali et al.

Summary: Transition metal-catalyzed functionalizations of inert C-H bonds to construct C-C bonds are an ideal route for synthesizing valuable organic molecules. Fine tuning of directing groups, catalysts, and ligands plays a crucial role in selective C-H bond activation. Recent developments in this area have ensured a high level of regioselectivity in C-H olefination reactions.
