From amides to urea derivatives or carbamates with chemospecific C-C bond cleavage at room temperature

Cong Lv et al.

Summary: In this study, a general method for the synthesis of urea derivatives and carbamates through copper-catalyzed C-C bond cleavage of amides at room temperature is presented. The proposed catalytic process involves a resonant six-membered N,O-chelated copper cycle and superoxide radical. This method allows for the cleavage of C-C bonds in common substrates with multiple reactive sites, making it of great interest in organic synthesis, the pharmaceutical industry, and the agrochemical industry.

Highly Chemoselective Transamidation of Unactivated Tertiary Amides by Electrophilic N-C(O) Activation by Amide-to-Acyl Iodide Re-routing

Dongxu Zuo et al.

Summary: The challenging transamidation of unactivated tertiary amides has been accomplished via cooperative acid/iodide catalysis. This method provides a direct route to amide-to-amide bond interconversion with excellent chemoselectivity using equivalent amounts of amines. The combination of acid and iodide activates the amide C-N bond through electrophilic catalytic activation, enabling the production of new desired transamidated products with wide substrate scope.

Structures of the Most Twisted Thioamide and Selenoamide: Effect of Higher Chalcogens of Twisted Amides on N-C(X) Resonance

Qun Zhao et al.

Summary: Replacing amide bond with planar isosteric chalcogen analogues has significant implications in structural chemistry, biochemistry, and organic synthesis. In this study, the synthesis of non-planar twisted amides with higher chalcogen derivatives was achieved through thionation and selenation reactions. The structures and properties of these analogues were confirmed by X-ray crystallography and reactivity studies. Computational analysis was also used to evaluate the effects of chalcogen substitution on the amide linkage.

Palladium-Catalyzed C-H Functionalization of Aryl Acetamides and Benzoquinones: Synthesis of Substituted Aryl Quinones

Ananya Dutta et al.

Summary: An efficient synthesis of aryl-substituted quinones via Pd(II)-catalyzed C-H functionalization of less expensive and abundant benzoquinones with aryl acetamides is demonstrated. The auxiliary ligand N,N-bidentate-directing group 8-aminoquinoline plays a crucial role in the success of the reaction. A broad range of substituted phenyl acetamides including commercially available drug molecules were examined and also found to be highly compatible with quinones. The aryl-substituted quinones were also easily converted into aryl-substituted hydroquinone derivatives. A plausible reaction mechanism was proposed to account for the selective distal C-H bond functionalization.

Tungsten-Catalyzed Transamidation of Tertiary Alkyl Amides

Fang-Fang Feng et al.

Summary: Transamidation has been emerging as a convenient method to diversify amides, but remains challenging for structurally robust tertiary alkyl amides. A new method is described here using tungsten(VI) chloride as a catalyst and chlorotrimethylsilane as an additive to streamline transamidation of tertiary alkyl amides. The synergistic effect of the catalyst and additive enables the nucleophilic acyl substitution of tertiary alkyl amides with amines, leading to successful transamidation.

Metal-free visible-light-induced aerobic oxidation of α-diazoesters leading to α-ketoesters in air

Ruisheng Liu et al.

Summary: A metal-free, visible-light-promoted strategy has been developed for the construction of alpha-ketoesters via aerobic oxidation of alpha-diazoesters with dioxygen at room temperature. Using cheap Eosin Y as the photocatalyst and O-2(air) as the oxidant, this protocol offers a mild and efficient approach to a wide range of alpha-ketoesters in moderate to good yields. Preliminary mechanistic studies indicate the involvement of photo-excited singlet oxygen in the reaction system.
